Many of us have spent a lot more time in our homes over the past 12 months.
That could mean either one of the following has happened:
- The Amazon boxes and deliveries have accumulated in our closets.
- Spring cleaning is an ongoing event that started in March of 2020.
The first scenario is more realistic.
That means with spring officially on the way this month, it is time to spring clean.
Spring cleaning is not confined to just our indoor living space, but we will talk more about that later.
Here are the areas that could greatly benefit from spring cleaning.
- Closets
Many of us probably have worn the same clothes over the past year so it is an even more opportune time to examine the clothes in our closets. We are not suggesting an absolute minimalist mindset, however, purging the wardrobe of pieces you do not foresee wearing in the next 12 months is recommended. Pieces that are perhaps dated in their cut, color, or overall look should be donated also (except if you want to save one for a fun throwback Halloween costume).
- Kitchens
Remember that kitchen gadget you had to have to make one recipe, and then no one liked the recipe. Our kitchens are overflowing with pieces that are no longer useful to us. The same is true for cookbooks and recipes. If you have not used them, donate them. When you have purged your kitchen, it makes it a lot easier to see what you use often and may need to replace due to wear and tear.
- Exterior of Home
Depending on the severity of the winter and the climate you live in, loose leaves, spouts, shingles, and roof tiles may have fallen off or been damaged by the winter weather. Take an inventory of the exterior of your home to see what needs to be taken care of and if necessary, call in professional help to make repairs.
- HVAC Unit
While people are eager to turn off the heat and open the windows to let fresh air when the spring season finally arrives, it is not too early to test run your air conditioner to make sure it is in good working order. It is better to find out that your air conditioning has issues when it is between 50 and 60 degrees outside and not when the temperature approaches 80 or 90 degrees.
